experiments taking shape

Cooler weather has called for cooler colours in the making.

I look forward to the opening of this on Friday.

lolly legs

A creature who's parts get stuffed in my backpack and carried around as I create them on our travels. Thinking candy colours teamed with white are yummy at the moment.

I normally don't like the constant glorification of fashion in the blogoshphere, but today I must be hypocritical and point you towards sesame magazine. The again candy colours in the sirens and rainbow bright photo shoot are taking my fancy. Also watch the sweet celine and lou lou, by talented and creative animator Isobel Knowles.

Cute space invader mosaic - East village

A Fafi spotted in alphabet city at the Lower East Side Girls Club Bake Shop. (A great organisation, please check out their website).

Guerrilla knitting installation on 9th street fence - East Village. (We also spotted some street pole mosaics, perhaps from a time of "mosaic bombing")?

Can you see my length?

Also on knitted works, see Housecosy by Bronwen Sandland in this city, 2002.

stitched up...quickly

My garish knitted length for the Stitching up the NGA installation.
As I only found out about it 2 days before the contributions were due, I pulled out my fattest needles, some awful yarn and knit 1.4 metres with haste.

yarn-bombing

In a case of good-timing I happened to be hanging around the National Gallery whilst Magda of Knitta Please is visiting the gallery, sharing some of her "guerrilla" knitting.
She gave an intriguing artist talk about the convergence of her knitting with street art and the impact she wants it to have in urban environments. Today she was completing her knit-tagging installation.

In haste, I have contributed a knitted piece for Magda, Denise Litchfield and Indigenous artists to use during this week as part of a community project to transform the entrance with knitting.

somebody pack the knitting

I have a new-found local friend who knits. Knitting afternoons with teapots of tea are a-go.

Previously I only had one "knitting friend" and now she lives hours away, hence the joy in coming across a proximal kindred knitter.

Adoring fiber creations by Nicole Gastonguay. (You must seek out the sardines).

part way through

4 months left to get this baby blanket finished. It may just be the first blanket i complete.

Blankets:
(Also I need some help. Have any Australian makers found product insurance that will cover them for online selling?)

why does your wool look like that?

I will have to do some research but is there some magic trick to opening a skein? My favourite yarn comes in a skein and without fail it always results in a massive tangle. (As you can see I am trying to organise it into a neat ball).

never turn down a cheap tomato

The grocer had these delicious looking tomatoes on special. We have been waiting for this day for a few weeks now... it's gazpacho time.
What are you having for dinner?

Completely unrelated, a knitted animation? See Les peaux de lièvres, a video clip for Montreal band Tricot Machine. Frames are machine knitted.
A combination of the gods.

he is up for auction

Remember this guy? He is up for auction here for Mike's round 5 of the softies for Mirabel appeal. If you know anyone who wants a little guy with a concentrating face in their life then send them this way, money goes to a great cause.

more than a drawer

Today it properly rained and the determined winds blew me into the local op shops.
The blue of the knitting needles attracted me immediately, and just because they aren't the same colour or even the same length doesn't mean I can't love them anyway. I also scored some fabric, mostly a bunch of upholstery samples for 20cents, a well-read version of Oliver Twist, and a brand new pair of grey school-boy pants for 3 dollars. Bargain, I know.

I saw her then. It took some testing, some discussion, some research and the eating of a sopressa roll, but I decided to buy her as an early birthday present to myself. The drawer in the third photo belongs to a table that holds my Singer 201k treadle operated sewing machine. She will be delivered on Monday, I am very happy, I will show and tell when she arrives. Thank you Mr op-shop, I hope her price-tag goes to good use.
