Lynn Russell of Satsuma Press is holding the most super of dooper giveaways in order to raise funds to remodel the household bathroom for her precious son Liam, who suffers from a neuromuscular disorder. The list of goodies and contributors is spectacular, and I hope that enough money is raised to see Liam get his accommodating bathroom and beyond. Join in!
I have borrowed the photo above, of Liam, from Lynn. Thank you.
If you aren't already registered to donate your organs and tissue when you or your body no longer needs them please think seriously. There is always someone who will cherish you passing them on. If you aren't an Aussie there is probably a similar register in your own country.
My garish knitted length for the Stitching up the NGA installation. As I only found out about it 2 days before the contributions were due, I pulled out my fattest needles, some awful yarn and knit 1.4 metres with haste.
In a case of good-timing I happened to be hanging around the National Gallery whilst Magda of Knitta Please is visiting the gallery, sharing some of her "guerrilla" knitting. She gave an intriguing artist talk about the convergence of her knitting with street art and the impact she wants it to have in urban environments. Today she was completing her knit-tagging installation.
In haste, I have contributed a knitted piece for Magda, Denise Litchfield and Indigenous artists to use during this week as part of a community project to transform the entrance with knitting.
I received my chunky disposable camera in the mail today for the A million Little Pictures project. Some thinking to do about my concept, but I am also looking forward to finding out what exploitable attributes the disposable has.
The 40 hour famine hasn't really hit my radar since I was a child or young teenager. Funny how trust in your ability to change the world diminishes as you get older.
Ambitiously there is a challenge of 50 days living outside and of no speaking happening at The Strychnine Tree to raise awareness and money to help fight malnutrition in Bangladesh.
Her video got me thinking about both that indefatigable attitude/drive of teenagers and the ability of the internet.
Although one of the principles is about walking in someone elese shoes, is the fact it made me think and pledge a bit of money to World Vision enough, even if she doesn't see it through? You can donate here too.
Summer in Australia usually = bushfires, however this year they have been particularly ferocious. It is really easy to donate a little bit of money on the Red Cross website to help those affected. Mike's is also listing numerous ways to help.
As you may have heard there are some new consumer safety laws about to come into effect in the U.S. Although the new act is a great step forward in improving the safety standards of children's products, in unfortunately isn't sympathetic to the handmade world as the new testing and labelling requirements are prohibitive for small crafters and artisans.
Please click on the button above or in my sidebar to see the information and ways to speak out.
At first I thought this wouldn't affect me as I live in another country, however this will impact anyone trying to sell handmade children's products, whether it be on etsy or through a brick and mortar store. So go save handmade toys.
To enter leave a comment and point me towards something you think I would find inspiring. An artist, a song, a maker, a photograph, a book, a word, a knitting pattern (especially if it is for a knitted goat), anything.
To be valid, comment before 5pm next Sunday the 9th. ( I ♥ November).
Top: my entry in the do not leave unattended notebook, (note: lacks wisdom), see other contributions here.
Below: the gorgeous envelope the notebook has been travelling around in. I wonder if Jude made it?
It is on the way to Japan now, and I realised whilst making the address labels that the next recipient is the etsy seller I bought those stamps from. Small world.
Remember this guy? He is up for auction here for Mike's round 5 of the softies for Mirabel appeal. If you know anyone who wants a little guy with a concentrating face in their life then send them this way, money goes to a great cause.
Whoops I nearly forgot to enter the Mochimochi contest. I was fibbing when I said I had a genius idea, but do you get the photos? Snail-trail, snail- mail and... snail with a leaf.
I am entering the Mochimochi photo contest with this knitted snail from their free patterns. That photo isn't my entry, i have a genius idea, just need some sunlight to take the photograph. There are some fun Japanese prizes, and I love a prize and Japanese stuff. It was meant to be.
Thank you everyone for the gorgeous comments on my last post. Encouraging ideas.
